The Northern Novas put forth a real team effort at the Yukon Synchronized Swimming Championships on Sunday.
The Yukon synchronized swim club delivered three team performances at the event hosted by Synchro Yukon at the Canada Games Centre.
“We had a big group and a couple extra teams this year, so that’s exciting,” said Synchro Yukon president Lindsay Roberts. “Usually we have one or two teams, but we had three this year, and two solos, so that’s the first in a while.”
The championship finished with solo performances by Teera Walsh and Taylor Jobin. A total of 17 Northern Novas swimmers competed and performed, up from 11 last year.
The Northern Novas plan to attend two Outside meets this season. They will send a team to the Lower Mainland Regionals in Richmond, B.C. in April, followed by the Island Regional Championships in May. The club will also host its annual Water Show the same month.
“We’re only halfway through our season, so they only started working on their routines in December,” said Roberts. “So by the time we get to the Water Show in the spring, they’ve had that many more months to work on it.”
