While much of the Yukon’s sports community was focused on the Arctic Winter Games, five Whitehorse Glacier Bears swimmers were competing at the B.C. AAA Short Course Championships in Surrey, B.C., during the first weekend of March.
Whitehorse’s Adrian Robinson had the greatest success, winning one gold and four bronze medals.
His gold came in the 50-metre freestyle for males 11-and-under, which he finished with a time of 30.19 seconds. He also won bronze in the 100-metre freestyle, the 100-metre backstroke, the 200-metre backstroke and the 100-metre breaststroke. The last two set new Glacier Bear club records.
Whitehorse’s other medal winner was Cassis Lindsay, who won bronze in the 200-metre backstroke in female 11-and-under with a time of 2:44.3.
Also competing was Glacier Bear Haley Braga in the female 15-year-old division. She finished sixth in the 200-metre free for her best showing and also came seventh in the 200-metre butterfly.
Whitehorse’s Erin McArthur placed 12th in the 100-metre breaststroke in female 14-and-under.
Teammate Sam Storey came 13th in the 100-metre butterfly for his best placement in the male 14-and-under division. (Tom Patrick)
