Watson Lake’s Zach Bell wrapped up the World Cup cycling season with two gold medals Friday and Saturday in Beijing, China.

Bell, 27, won Friday’s points race by twice lapping the field and winning three sprints within the event. Although in points races its more about collecting points than crossing the finish line first, Bell still finished the race a lap ahead of the rest of the field.

Saturday’s gold came in the men’s scratch race.

Competing in China is nothing new to Bell, who won a silver medal at a World Cup event in Beijing a year ago. Bell also competed in Beijing during the 2008 Summer Olympic Games where he finished seventh in the points race.

Last December Bell was named International Male Athlete of the Year by Sport Yukon for the second year in a row. (Tom Patrick)
