August 30, 2022
We are terribly saddened to announce the passing of Sylvie Salomon on August 30th, 2022 in Carcross, Yukon. Sylvie was 58 years old.
She is survived by her loving children, Alex and Izak, her partner Ilka Lasevitz, their fur baby Muffin, her stepson Rafael Lasevitz, her ex-partner Jean-Francois Blouin (Jody Studney), and countless friends and loved ones.
Sylvie is now in the company of her beloved son, Maxim Baril-Blouin, and her parents, Denise Beaudoin and Antoine Bourget.
Sylvie arrived in the Yukon in August 1991 from Quebec City for a teaching job and quickly settled in. She was an active part of the local French community, notably during the creation of the local French language daycare La Garderie du Petit Cheval Blanc, which all her children subsequently attended.
Sylvie is remembered as an outstanding teacher and educator who taught every subject with fervor and passion and whose kindness for her students was only excelled by her joy and excitement for each new day where she would help to shape and form the minds of kids.
She was a teacher at École Émilie-Tremblay from its humble beginnings in 1992 until her retirement in 2019.
She will be fondly remembered by her colleagues and students.
Sylvie's qualities were countless but her humor and wit were paramount. And she shared that humor by being a cast member throughout the years in many plays like Les Belles Soeurs at the local theater and also by joining her students in school productions like Molière.
She gave her time and energy to numerous charitable organizations like Les EssentiElles and FASSY in Whitehorse believing that any act of kindness no matter how big or small made a difference in people's lives.
Her joie de vivre and eagerness made her try just about anything from paddle boarding in barely thawed Yukon lakes to surfing in the Pacific Ocean in California, petting a giraffe in Mexico to water skiing in Quebec. Sylvie never cared if she fell, got bruised or felt exhausted, for that was part of the journey for her.
So much could be written about this amazing and incredible woman, and it would still not capture the light and joy she brought to all those she encountered. She will be remembered and missed forever.
Sylvie's family will be holding a celebration of life in the Grey Mountain Room at Mount McIntyre on Friday, September 16th, 2022 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. All are invited to share stories and celebrate Sylvie's life. Refreshments will be served.
