Sylvia Anne Sakiw (Fogarassy)

October 25, 2021

April 1, 1951 - October 25, 2021
It's with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, daughter and grandmother. Sylvia passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side.
Sylvia was raised in Whitehorse and loved living and growing up in the Yukon. Sylvia was always the life of the party. She enjoyed camping, a good glass of wine or two, playing the slot machines at Gertie's, bingo, and she even was lucky enough to win the lottery in 1988. She worked for Queen's Printer, Yukon Government, where she worked with great people in her 28 years there. She finally retired in 2013, which freed up time to spend with her grandchildren, who she loved so dearly.
Sylvia is survived by her mother, Erna Fogarassy; her husband, Terry Sakiw; her daughters, Melonie Moir (Chris), Candace Leigh (Travis), and Tera LaBar (Adam); her grandchildren, Kaysen, Taryn, Conner and Camryn; her sister, Judy Campbell (Don), her brother, Robert Fogarassy (Debbie), her brother-in-law, Kevin White; her nieces, Stacey Hannah and Jennifer Chute; her nephew, Kirk Fogarassy; and their beautiful golden lab, Marley.
She was predeceased by her father, Elmer Fogarassy, her mother-in-law, Irene Sakiw, her sister, Rosey White (Fogarassy), and her nephew, Kevin Hannah.
You can shed tears that she is gone,
or you can smile because she lived.
You can feel devastated that you lost your mom,
or you can remember what she said,
"No matter what, I'll always be your mom, and I love you to the moon and back."
We will miss your quick wit, your positivity, and most of all your strength and bravery. Because of these gifts you have, you made a very tough time a lot easier on us. You pushed through to give us more moments together and we cherish every minute. You made an impression on everyone that had the pleasure of meeting you.
Our family would like to send a sincere thank you to the wonderful team at the Wind River Hospice House who made our mom "feel like a queen". She said, "They need to advertise this place more" because being there added so much more life to her days.
Mom would now say, "That's enough of this nonsense, let's talk about something else!" XOXO
