December 2, 1942 - January 24, 2019
Steve Van Bibber passed away peacefully in the early hours of January 24, 2019.
Steve was born in Dawson City on December 2, 1942, into the Wolf clan of the Tr'ondek Hwech'in Steve was the oldest of four; born to parents JJ and Clara Van Bibber.
Steve lived and grew up in the Yukon, where Dawson City was his home. He worked in numerous jobs throughout the Yukon, eventually establishing a long career, that he loved, as a placer gold miner. With his good-humoured and welcoming personality, he spread smiles everywhere he went.
Steve was the backbone of his family and a constant for support and guidance. Always there with a shoulder to lean on for whoever needed it, day or night. Whether it be out at the mine, at morning coffee, or from his chair in the living room, he was always happy to give you a word of advice to set you straight and make you smile.
He is survived and greatly missed by wife Nora and his children Steven (Dalores), Shane (Monique), Shannon (Timothy), and Laurie; his grandchildren Kristin (Jeremy), Kurtis (Cheyenne), Tanis, Alysha, and Isis; his sister Clara (Sis) Van Bibber; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Sally MacDonald, Dr. Jo Devenish, Dr. Adam Sherrard, and the nurses at the Dawson City Community Hospital for
their compassionate care and support throughout his battle with cancer.
Those who were lucky enough to get to know him will forever remember him and miss his comforting presence.
A memorial service will be held in Dawson City at the Anglican Church on Thursday January 31, 2019, at 2 pm. Dinner to follow at the Tr'ondek Hwech'in Community Hall.
