July 29, 1932 - December 13, 2018
With great sadness and heavy hearts, the family of Shirley "Cookie" Morgan (nee Cooke) announce her passing on December 13, 2018 at the age of 86.
Cookie was born in Calgary, Alberta on July 29, 1932. In 1953 she married Trevor Morgan. They had two sons, Mitch and Guy, and eventually moved to Norman Wells, NWT. The family moved to Whitehorse in 1969.
Cookie first worked at Elvins Equipment, then Whitehorse Copper until the mine shut down. After that she worked for many years at the City of Whitehorse as Secretary to the Mayor. While at the City, Cookie organized and traveled on many Sister City trips to Japan, St Lucia, Australia and Juneau. Anyone who knew Cookie knows she loved to travel and explore the world!
Cookie was very active in many sports including curling, softball and golf. An avid sports fan, she always cheered for the Calgary team. She also enjoyed a challenging card game, loved to watch football, and represented the Yukon many times at the Canada Senior Games, participating in shuffleboard.
Cookie is pre-deceased by her husband Trevor, son Mitch, and brothers Don and Dale Cooke. Cookie is survived by her loving son Guy (Claudia), her beloved grandsons, Connor and Jared; and by her extended family - Martin and Glenis Allen, and their daughters Lisa Allen Worden (Robin), Gabriella and Martina, and Tracy Allen Stollery (Jon), Jack and William.
We would like to thank Dr. Biss and the caring staff at Macaulay Lodge and Whistle Bend for their fantastic care of Cookie. We cannot express enough our gratitude for the attention and dignity you provided her.
Cookie was a remarkable and often mischievous lady. She was passionate, fiercely independent, and was loved by all. She will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held on January 5, 2019 at the Mount McIntyre Curling Club at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mae Bachur Animal Shelter would be appreciated.
