It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ruth Kathleen Merinda Miles Thom (nee: Josephs) at Copper Ridge Place on the evening of March 1, 2019. Ruth passed peacefully surrounded by family.

Ruth was born on October 30, 1929, in Hardisty Alberta. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Effie and Arthur Josephs; her husband John Miles and by her sons and daughter Gene Miles, Ron Thom and Donna (Thom) Wright.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Lawrence Thom; daughters, Terry Miles, Victoria Miles, Beverly (Thom) Lussier (Marty); and sons, Dana Miles (Mig) and Kim Miles. Ruth had 10 grandchildren; Jade, Amber, Amanda, Simone, Nicole, Jaymie, Mackenzie, Eric, Kristen, Caitlin, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Ruth and Lawrence Thom moved to Whitehorse, Yukon from Sherwood Park, Alberta in 1979. Ruth continued her work in microfilm archives with the Yukon Government after which she eventually retired to pursue her love of camping, fishing, photography (of which she won numerous awards) and travelling with Lawrence and friends to near and far off places.

She volunteered at the Yukon Arts Centre and was involved with the Ladies Royal Purple of the Elks and also the Ladies Auxiliary of the Legion. Ruth was an avid curler all of her life and participated in many tournaments including the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. She enjoyed her life to the fullest with her family and friends.

The family of Ruth Thom expresses heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at Copper Ridge Place who provided Ruth with great caring, compassion and empathy during her stay there.
