1948 - 2024
Rick passed away on March 15, 2024 in Vancouver after a brief illness. He is greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Diane Parenti, and his daughter Dawn Macdonald. He is survived by his sister Laurie Patterson (Dwight) and his brother John Macdonald (Anne), and two nieces. He is also missed by his many friends, whom he enjoyed talking, laughing, and spending time with.
Rick was born in Bay City, Michigan. He spent most of his childhood living in Santa Fe, New Mexico with his family. They moved to California when he was in high school. It was at UC Davis that he met his future wife, Diane. In 1974 Rick and Diane immigrated to the Yukon, which became their permanent home.
He was a skilled automotive technician, and he worked for a dealership in Whitehorse for 30 years. After that, he operated his own auto repair shop on his property in Mount Lorne.
Rick was a natural in the outdoors.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, horseback riding, canoeing, hiking, and farming on his acreage. He often said that being outdoors in nature was when he felt the most himself.
