Netta passed away suddenly on a Beaver Float plane returning from a fly-in fishing cabin where she'd just spent the week with both her daughters Karla, Dalyce and their husbands and children. Her life was an adventure from arriving in 1961 with her husband John, cooking in outfitting camps, cooking at the Taku in Whitehorse, running Transport Cafe a roadside highway lodge, before finally settling outside of Watson Lake where she and her husband operated a sawmill, cleared land to farm, and raised their family. Her final few years were spent in a seniors apartment complex in Watson Lake closer to family and friends.
Life was full and Netta worked hard. She enjoyed a good laugh and loved to play crib. She loved the Yukon and the life she lived, and had many stories to tell, so it is only fitting that she left this world on an adventure.
As sad as death always is one couldn't ask for a more serene and peaceful way to leave this world, with family close. She will be sadly missed but will live on in our hearts.
Lovingly remembered by daughters Karla (Len), Dalyce (John); grandchildren Kiera, Alysia, Brett, Mitchael, and Alix; and step-grandchildren Jenna, Jesse, and Tobias.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Watson Lake Signpost Senior Centre Sunday, July 28th from 11 am - 3 pm where a light lunch and refreshments will be served, followed by a friendly crib tournament in her honour.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Yukon Foundation for a fund being established in her name.
