February 24, 1935 - January 20, 2024

Ljubomir (Ljubo) 'Lou' Perunovic passed away in Belgrade after a brief and sudden illness on January 20th 2024.

Ljubo was born in Montenegro February 24th, 1935. He first came to Canada in the late 60s working on the Alaska Hwy.

He met his wife Lilian in a clinic when he was sent for medical attention (she was predeceased in 1991). He earned a Masters of Slavonic Studies (UBC 1973), spent some time at UC Berkeley studying and guest lecturing.

In 1980, Ljubo was lured to the Klondike where he spent summers prospecting and running gold mining operations until last summer. He usually wintered in Europe, often writing and travelling. His love for Russian culture and literature remained strong. He published four books later in life and was inducted into the Russian Writer's Guild in 2022.

He will be mourned by his brother Miroslav and sister Ljubica and their families in Serbia and Montenegro along with his close cousin Blagota in Montreal.

His daughter Maria Power, grandchildren Charlotte and Sophie are saddened by his passing and will miss hearing his stories about the exciting life he led right until his last days.
