Lois Murtagh

Lois Murtagh passed peacefully at her home in Copper Ridge Place with her husband and daughter at her side on August 10, 2018.

Lois was born at her grandmother's house in Hilldrop, Saskatchewan on June 24th, 1939 to Howard and Irene Mason (predeceased). She was the eldest daughter of thirteen children and grew up surrounded by numerous relatives and friends. After getting her teaching certificate in Saskatoon she eventually moved to the Yukon.

She met the love of her life, Peter J. Murtagh, recently celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary. Together they had two children, Peter H.G. Murtagh and Shannon (Bob) Duke. She was also blessed with a stepson Stephen (Melma) Charlie. Lois adored her granddaughters, Jamie Duke; Amie, Hillary, and Joel Charlie; and Kristen Murtagh; and her two great grandsons Mayson and Malichi. Family meant the world to Lois especially her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews for which she had many.

Survived by siblings Ronald (Sheila) Mason, Jean McGarry, Rob (Louise) Mason, Jim (Judy) Mason, Fay Mason, David (Cheryl) Mason, Ken (Sandra) Mason, Brenda (Rick) Anderson, Joy (Roger) Palowski, Roy (Terry) Mason, Richard Mason and sister-in-law Linda Mason. Predeceased by her eldest brother Arthur Mason and brother-in-law Pat McGarry, nephews David, Cliff, and Mark Mason, and nieces, Michelle and Deanna Mason.

Lois was a loving and creative person who treasured singing and children which is why a career in teaching was so fulfilling. She also enjoyed visiting, playing cards, baking, cooking, numerous crafts, reading, and camping. She especially loved getting dolled up and going out for dinner.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Whitehorse, Yukon. Reception to follow downstairs in the CYO Hall.
