Linch 'Malinda Jane' Curry (nee Van Bibber)

January 6, 2020

October 18, 1927 - January 6, 2020
Respected Selkirk Elder Linch Curry passed away at Copper Ridge Place on January 6th, 2020 at the age of 92. She was a sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, and a cherished friend. Linch was the second youngest of the 15 children born to Eliza and Ira Van Bibber of Pelly Crossing, Yukon. She was married to Bob Curry and they had two sons, David and Wayne.
Linch grew up on the land and spent much of her life doing what she loved. She was a trapper well into her eighties and shot her first moose with her younger brother Dode at 11 years of age. Linch was born at Mica Creek near Pelly Crossing. She loved the river and had many stories of her adventures hunting, fishing and trapping on the Pelly, Yukon, and Macmillan Rivers.
Linch was an artist, painting the land she so loved. She was feisty and no nonsense, offering up bits of her vast knowledge of bush life or life in general. She was always busy working and puttering outdoors.
Linch was a longtime board member with Dana Nye Ventures, served on the Selkirk First Nation Council, the Selkirk Renewable Resources Council, and was a member of the artists' guild. She taught the trappers course along with her brother Alex.
Celebration of Life will be held at Pelly Crossing on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 1pm at the Link Building, followed by a meal with the family.
Everyone welcome.
Heartfelt thanks to the staff at unit D, Copper Ridge Place and Dr. Susan Alton.
