March 18, 1942 - November 22, 2018
Len left this world peacefully November 22, 2018 after a long struggle with his health. Family and friends were by his side until the end.
Born March 18, 1942 in Vancouver, BC. Len was predeceased by his father, Ronald Burrows and by his mother Dorothy (nee Lemon) and stepfather, Guy Thomson.
He spent his youth in North Vancouver, marrying Sheralynn (nee Hatch) Croonen in 1963. They divorced in 1975 remaining friends.
He is survived by son Jim (Cindy) Burrows, daughter Kim (Dan) O'Keefe and son Mike (Anne) Burrows, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Rhonda Parker and brother Michael (Rita) Thomson, and many Yukon friends.
He moved to Inuvik, NWT in 1976 to work for Finning Tractor. In 1978 he moved to the Porter Creek area of Whitehorse and started his own welding company. Len made many friends who shared his same interests.
Flying ultralight aircraft was his passion and integral to his love for the north. He realized his dream of having his own runway, "Len's Landing", when he moved out to Mile 8.6 on the Mayo Highway. He enjoyed motorcycle trips and never passed up a chance to have coffee with friends. He was always ready to help anyone, anywhere.
He finished his career working at the City of Whitehorse when kidney failure forced him to leave the Yukon. He endured 8 years of kidney dialysis in Nanaimo, B.C. and cared for his aging parents while there. He received a transplant in 2008, and soon returned home to Whitehorse. His enduring tenacity was confirmed having survived a bike accident and two plane crashes over the years before the auto accident and subsequent discovery of lung cancer this past spring.
We would like to thank the Doctors who cared for Dad in his final weeks. Thank you also to the staff at Copper Ridge for their caring and attention offered to Dad until the end. We cannot thank you enough for helping to make his final weeks comfortable.
A private gathering will take place in July 2019.
