"The comfort of having a friend may be taken away, but not that of having had one."
For Freeman (Larry) Crowther, Brother/Uncle/Father/Grandfather/Great Grandfather and simply a Gentleman. Dad served as a "Tradesman, an Electrician" for the majority of his life, he worked in the mining industry for several companies in his lifetime.
He started his Mining life in Headly B.C., then he went to Caribou Gold Corp., worked at Britannia Beach, and while sitting in the "Blackstone Tavern" with fellow miners he decided to hire on with Falconbridge.
His journey to the Yukon started. Dad said the slogan used by Falconbridge to hire personnel for "United Keno Hill Mine" was "When Times are Rough and Friends are Few, Keno Hill is the Place for You".
Dad arrived in the Yukon via air, apparently a milk run back in the day. His employment had a rough start starting in January, he first worked in Calumet, but his youthful partying and the eye of his future wife Laura (Hagar) caused his employment seniority to be broken.
During those periods he worked for Don Curry cutting lagging on the Big Island (he worked along side "Frank Germaine"), Dad also worked on the Stewart Crossing Bridge for a short period, he worked for "Proctor Sawmill", worked on the Wind River, he then was persuaded to return to United Keno Hill Mines by long time friend "Bill Bennett".
Although he had some prior electrical work experience, he obtained his certification attending the Yukon Trades School. Dad worked for United Keno Hill Mines for more than 40 years until 1997. Dad also worked in Cassier B.C., Cantung NWT, Cold Lake Air Base in Bonnyville Alberta and then for the Yukon Territorial Government. Retiring in 2011. We would hope you can join us in sharing a funny story or a favorite memory. The family would like to Thank the staff at Whistle Bend "Emerald House" for the care my our father received, and Heritage North Funeral Home.
