"A Life Well Lived" ~
Dorothy was born in Salmon Patch in a cabin along the Kluane River to the late Sam and Jessie Johnson. She was the oldest of ten children. Dorothy would spend the majority of her life in the community of Burwash Landing. She was one who never ventured far from home.
She was active in her early years always walking to where she was going whether to the post office, store or FN office to visit. Never one to be idle, always keeping busy. In her spare time she sewed handicrafts like hairpins and necklaces. S
he worked during the summers at the Kluane Museum from 1970 to the 1990's for around twenty years. She was an active community member and would attend many meetings and community gatherings.
In May 2016, Dorothy took a fall and went to the hospital, in October the same year she moved to the Thomson Centre in Whitehorse where she would spend the next four years. She was unable to return to her beloved community and always wanted to go home. Dorothy passed peacefully on her 86th birthday on Christmas Day, December 25, 2020.
Dorothy leaves behind her only daughter Liz Johnson and youngest son Hughie Johnson. She is predeceased by her sons, Arnold Johnson and Richie Johnson and her grandchildren Darren & Jessica.
The family of Dorothy wishes to acknowledge and thank the staff and the FN workers at the Thomson Centre for mom's exceptional care during the last four years of her life. Thank you to Kami who went out of her way to ensure family was with mom during her last days. The family also thanks Dr. Morash for Dorothy's exceptional care over the years.
