January 19, 1954 - April 15, 2021
It is with a broken heart that we are announcing the sudden passing of Donovan McGlaughlin. He will be deeply missed by his partner of the last 15 years, Julie Dugrenier, his 3 children, River, Maverick, and Jeb, by all his extended family in Pelly and all his friends.
Donovan was born in Canada to a Canadian mother (Janet Lorain McGlaughlin) and a native American father (Nozze Chunk). Since he was never registered at birth, he became a stateless man for over 60 years.
After a long battle with the Canadian government, they finally recognized him as a Canadian citizen in May 2015.
Being unable to receive proper care for a long period of time, he suffered from a massive heart attack back in 2010 and since then he lived with a heart failure condition which brought many complications over the years.
The last 15 years of his life were dedicated to raise his 3 children and to teach them everything he knew before it would be too late.
Even if it was broken, Donovan's heart was big and he was always ready to help others in any way he could, even if that meant giving everything he owned.
A very knowledgeable and talented man in countless aspects of life, he raised his voice for the less fortunate and tried to bring some changes around for the future generations.
Before settling down in Yukon over 30 years ago, Donovan traveled all over Canada and the United States. He became a jack of all trades. You could have challenged him with just about anything.
He was also a great storyteller. He could keep you up for hours, telling you about all his life's adventure or the new projects he was working on.
Donovan loved being in the bush, logging, building, and most of all, being with his family.
Cremation took place in Whitehorse on April 23rd, 2021.
At the beginning of the summer, come and join the family for a celebration of life to honor Donovan (date and location to be announced later).
Special thanks to all the medical staffs who cared for Donovan, all the way to the end.
The family would like to express their gratitude for all the support and kindness shown in this hard time.
