Don Palamar, age 84 of Whitehorse, Yukon, passed peacefully on October 2, 2020 at the Wind River Palliative Care Unit.
Don was born in Vancouver, BC on September 18, 1936. He was preceded in death by his wife Donna Louise Palamar in 2014.
Don is survived by his three children: Cheryl Palamar, Jim Palamar (Bunne), and Mike Palamar (Bonnie). Grandchildren: Kristy, Jason (Vanessa), Amy (Kaleb), Sierra (Greg) and Kiana (Mike). Great grandchildren: Harper, Ember, and Addison. His sister Mary Horton of Vancouver, BC and many relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
Don moved with his family to Whitehorse in 1967 where he operated as Manager of the Tourist Services Supermarket. Then in 1969 Don was the new Manager and opened the new Super Valu in the Qwanlin Mall.
He purchased Food Fair located at that time in the Taylor and Drury building on 1st Avenue with his partner Bob Evans in 1972. Food Fair moved to its new location in the Yukon Centre Mall on 2nd Avenue in 1991. Don retired from the store in 2007 and Food Fair/Super Valu closed its doors in 2009.
Don will be fondly remembered for walking around the store and greeting the customers every day. Also, his generosity for handing out turkeys or hams during the holidays. He also sponsored or donated to many sports teams and organizations over the thirty-five plus years while in business.
The Palamar family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the wonderful staff at Continuing Care-Homecare, Wind River Palliative Care Unit, and EMS. Many thanks to his wonderful neighbors for always looking out for him.
