July 27, 1936 - December 17, 2020
In loving memory of Donald Clinton McDermott "The Taz". Son of John A. McDermott and Elizabeth McDermott (nee Chalmers) and loving husband to Evelyn McDermott (nee Issac). Donald is survived by his beloved sister Donna, and will be greatly missed by his friends, colleagues, extended family and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don proudly served in the Canadian Military, joining the reserves as a teenager, and had a long career that included CFMS, Health and Welfare Canada and Whitehorse General Hospital. He enjoyed many years of working in WGH in various departments.
He finally retired in 2011. The Donwegian language will live on.
After serving overseas in Korea and Germany, and traveling across Canada and into the high Arctic, he and Evelyn settled in Whitehorse in 1987. Don and Evelyn loved to entertain, and he always had great stories to share. Don was an avid hiker and was especially proud of his many hikes over the Chilkoot.
He loved Whitehorse, and he loved to volunteer for the Arctic Winter Games and the Yukon Quest. He enjoyed being a member of the Legion, in Whitehorse and then in Langford, BC.
After Evelyn's passing, Don relocated to Victoria, where they had married.
Don left us peacefully, in the company of loved ones, and wished to convey his eternal gratitude to the staff at Victoria General for their extraordinary care and compassion.
Donations can be made to the Yukon/BC Cancer agency in memory of Don.
