April 23, 1930 - November 2, 2021
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Dietlind Helga Roman in Kelowna, B.C. on November 2, 2021. She spoke often of her childhood in Germany where her love of music, nature, gardening, learning, and sports, would become the foundation for a life of many successes. After WWII, Dietlind immigrated to Thunder Bay, Ontario with husband Virgil. It was in Rosslyn Village where her many achievements and commitment to her family and community began through various careers: as a dedicated mother, an accomplished church choir organist and choir director, a respected piano teacher, a compassionate Nurse's Assistant, a master gardener and a loyal friend.
Although she suffered a stroke in 2006, she never limited her pursuits nor what filled her heart with happiness. Her work ethic, determination, patience, optimism and inner strength turned new challenges into adventures.
It was her stay in the Yukon from 2006 to 2011 with daughter Gloria and spouse John that allowed her to get used to her "new self" but still continue her love of gardening, music and the outdoors and at the same time learn new skills like using a computer, bird watching and wildlife viewing from her picture window in her "cabin in the woods" in Mary Lake. Yukon became her sanctuary and to the end she spoke about her time there with fondness and appreciation for its beauty, people and lifestyle offered. She would continue her Canadian adventure with family in Calgary and Vernon, always with a gracious attitude and accepting of the new life presented.
Dietlind passed away at 91 years of age with Gloria by her side. She is survived by her daughters Carmen Roman (Marcel) of Calgary; Gloria Roman (John) of Vernon; son Adrian Roman (Donna) of Thunder Bay; three grandchildren Natasha of Thunder Bay, Breigh of Edmonton; Catlin (Lisa) of Victoria and a great-granddaughter Maya of Victoria. She was predeceased by her husband Virgil in 1999.
Her presence, words of wisdom, endearing smile and laughter will be dearly
missed as we begin our healing journey to fulfill the void in our hearts.
