August 28, 1961 - September 22, 2023
We are saddened to announce the passing of Diane Huber, wife, daughter, sister and aunt. Diane passed peacefully surrounded by her family and under the excellent care of the Wind River Hospice House.
Diane was born in the Whitehorse General Hospital on August 28, 1961. She was the daughter of Frank and Merton McAffer Friesen, sister of David Friesen and wife of Brad Huber.
Diane received all her education in Whitehorse, graduating from F.H. Collins and going on to the Whitehorse Vocational School. She was employed at Ron Herry's Jewellery Store, Arctic Star Printing, Macdonald & Company and finally with Lamarche, Lang & Barrett.
In 1980, Diane moved to Edmonton to experience life in the big city. She found employment with Northwest Drug Wholesale Co. Ltd. However, one year later she found herself back in Whitehorse just in time to compete in the International Curling Bonspiel, and then made Whitehorse her permanent home.
Diane was always active in the community. She swam and curled competitively, belonged to the Judo Club, was a Big Sister, sang in the church choir, and was a willing volunteer for many events including the Canadian Curling Playdowns, the 1990 Canadian Senior Playdowns and the Arctic Winter Games.
Diane and Brad were married March 19, 1992 in Cancun, Mexico. They enjoyed travelling throughout the Yukon with their camper, boat and various dogs. Many happy times were also spent at Dave's cabin at Tagish, and fishing stories were shared around the evening campfire.
Diane was diagnosed with an invasive cancer on March 14, 2023. After chemotherapy and surgery, it was determined the cancer had invaded her entire upper body and she passed away September 22, 2023.
Diane was predeceased by her father Frank. She is survived by her husband Brad, mother Merton, brother Dave (Lynda), brothers-in-law Brian, Bruce (Leslie), sisters-in-law Sharilynn (Tom) and Lorri (Kim). Nephews Jake, Ryan, Cole (Kelly), Dustin (Nina), Jared (Ivy), Warren (Sydney), niece Sarah, and dog Oliver.
A private Celebration of Life (at Diane's request) was held on Saturday, September 30, 2023.
The family of Diane would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Serge Lamarche and the entire staff at Lamarche, Lang & Barrett. We express thanks to Dr. Kmet and his chemotherapy nurses at Karen's Room in Whitehorse General Hospital. Many thanks are extended to all the nurses and staff at the Wind River Hospice House for the outstanding care Diane received during her stay there.
