November 28, 1928 - January 7, 2021
Cyril passed away at home in Calgary on January 7, 2021. He is predeceased by his parents Edward and Doris, his sister Eileen (Don) and brother Dennis (Betty), two daughters Kathryn and Kelly, daughter-in-law Carole, grandson Daniel and nephew Peter.
Cyril is survived by his wife, 7 children, 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, plus 2 more on the way.
Born in Bristol, England, he immigrated to Canada in 1951, making his way to the Yukon where he met his wife Leona.
During his time in the Yukon, Cyril worked as a Heavy Duty Mechanic, as Instructor of Mechanics and as Field Mechanical Superintendent.
Cyril and Leona raised 9 children: Kurt (Carole and Barbara), Kim (Blair), Mark (Christian), Dave (Cecilia), Kelly (Don), Kathryn, Laura (Mark), Christopher (Roshean) and Gregory (Carolyn).
Once retired, he and Leona left the Yukon and moved to Tanzania, where they volunteered for 4 years with CPPS Mission Projects, managing and updating a trades training centre. Upon return to Canada, they settled in Vernon, BC, and continued to adventure abroad.
Subsequent foreign assignments included projects in Nairobi, Kenya and Sri Lanka. In all, their travels took them to 32 countries. After 6 years in Victoria, BC, he and Leona moved to Calgary, Alberta.
Cyril's character was evident at the young age of 15, where the headmaster at the Bristol Technical School honoured him as "... a boy of great abilities ... [whose]... quiet reserved manner somewhat disguises his very real powers of intelligence and energetic work. He is a very dependable boy, completely trustworthy."
Cyril lived by his motto, the mission statement of The Christophers: "It's better to light one candle than to curse the darkness."
