January 20, 1952 - October 16, 2022
Brian was born and raised in Winnipeg where he attended Silver Heights Collegiate and received his master's degree in anthropology from the University of Manitoba. He began his career with Parks Canada as archaeologist for Klondike National Historic Sites in Dawson City, Yukon.
He married Christine Grant in October 1980 and the couple spent six years in Dawson before moving to Cornwall, Ontario where Brian was Project Archaeologist for Native Sites and National Parks for 33 years.
Renowned for his good humour, wit, compassion, gentleness, silliness, hats of many kinds and his love of fine food and baking pies, he will be sorely missed by all who knew him but most particularly by Chris, the love of his life.
Brian passed peacefully at the Carefor Cornwall Hospice and, at his request was cremated having spent enough time in the cold damp ground.
Predeceased by brother Ian and parents Gordon and Ellen Ross (nee Hendrickson). Joining Chris in mourning are brothers Alan (Moira), Robert (Suzanne), and sister-in-law Elisabeth. Brian was much loved by the Grant family and is greatly missed by sisters-in-law Cheryl Breakey (Don), Lori Grant, Patti Mendarozqueta, and brother-in-law Bob Grant (Roberta). Also by his many nieces and nephews: Anne (Scott), Andrea (Ian), Andrew (Ying), Canek, Danielle (Guillaume), Eric (Thanh), Lynn, Marieke (Scott), Nicole (Jason), Patti (Carl), Rob (Claire), Ryan (Candace) and Sandy (Kelly), and 14 great-nieces and nephews. Cousin Lynn (Dan) Murphy and family were dear to Brian, as was goddaughter Joelle Ingram.
Sincere thanks to the caring staff of Ottawa General, Urology and Cancer Care, Bayshore Health Care, Cornwall Community Hospital, The Janet MacDonnell Pavilion, and Cornwall Hospice, as well as our supportive friends, family, neighbours and extended archaeology family.
If you wish to honour Brian's memory by donation, he favoured First Nations University of Canada (fnuniv.ca/donate-today), Nature Conservancy of Canada (natureconservancy.ca/en/what-you-can-do/donate/), Hospice Cornwall (carefor.ca/donate/?fund-7), or any local animal shelter.
Celebration of life to come.
