September 10, 1949 - March 21, 2024
It is with heavy hearts for us to announce that after several years of major health challenges, Ben passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Whitehorse General Hospital on March 21, 2024.
Born in Barrhead, Alberta and a resident of Whitehorse since 1971, Ben worked for NorthwesTel for just over 40 years until he retired in 2018. He was a long-time volunteer for the Yukon Bridge Building Contest.
Ben is survived by his wife: Doris of Whitehorse, his two sons: James of Good Hope Lake, BC and Steven of Edmonton, Alberta, his brother: Don (Rose-Marie) of Edmonton, his sister-in-law: Lucille of Smith, Alberta, and his loving German Shepherd best friend: Loreena.
Ben is also survived by his nephew: Paul, his nieces: Donna, Patricia and Amanda, and his cousins who all reside in Alberta.
Ben was predeceased by his mother: Ebba and his father: James.
We would like to thank Dr. Robin Jamieson for her excellent job on helping Ben reach the age of 74 while he battled major health challenges for several years.
We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses in the ICU at the Whitehorse General Hospital who cared for Ben prior to his passing, and making sure he was comfortable during his time in the ICU.
A special thank you to brothers/uncles William Carlick of Whitehorse, Roy Carlick of Good Hope Lake, Henry Carlick of Iskut, BC and Merle Carlick of Good Hope Lake for all your support and being with us after Ben passed away.
A special thank you to sister/auntie Evelyn Ethier of Smithers, BC and her two sons Chris Ethier of Smithers and Sean Ethier of Maple Ridge, BC who stayed by our side during our time of sorrow.
Also, a special thank you to Heritage North Funeral Home in Whitehorse for their wonderful care, respect and understanding to us during this very difficult time.
Ben will be greatly missed by those who loved him and by those who knew him.
The family will have a private service at a later date.
