December 22, 1960 - June 5, 2018
Our friend Arleigh passed away on June 5 in Seattle, surrounded by friends and loved ones.

He leaves behind his mother Nora Marquis (Nelson, BC), sister Margaret Cook (Montana), and brothers Jim Cook (Fort McMurray), Terry Cook (Grande Prairie), Mike Cook (Seattle) and Shawn Marquis (Nelson, BC).

He was predeceased by his father Henry and sisters Anita and Sherida.

Arleigh always cloaked his birthdate in mystery, but it turns out he was born on December 22, 1960. He grew up mostly in Grande Prairie. After earning degrees in neuropsychology (U of A) and law (UBC), Arleigh moved to the Yukon in 1987 where he spent five eventful years. He then moved to Victoria and eventually Seattle where he worked for many years as a medical examiner for first the King County Coroner's Office and then the Snohomish County Coroner's Office. Fun and laughter fueled Arleigh's friendships. He was always up for an adventure.

Armed with his quick wit and surly disposition, you could count on him for a sarcastic comment or a supportive hug. (Usually both!) He loved his time spent outdoors in the Yukon. His strong paddling and martini making skills will be sorely missed by his canoe tripping buddies.

The family is planning a service for the Labour Day weekend in Seattle before laying Arleigh to rest, date and location TBD. The family asks that any donations in Arleigh's memory go to funds that support education for young people, e.g. the Yukon Foundation. Over the years our friend mentored quite a few young people, who have since his passing let the family know about the positive impact he had on their lives.

Seattle friends are holding an event July 2. Yukon friends, please contact for information about a small gathering.

Your condolences will be approved within one business day. You will need a valid Facebook account. Please email us if you have any questions.
