1942-2022 ~ One of life's one-of-a-kind has left us.
Andrew Francis Skerlec died suddenly on April 8th, at his home in Toronto, not long after his 80th birthday.
Loved and cherished by his family and many friends, Andy lived a charmed life. A life of unique accomplishment and wild adventures, (from mining gold in the frozen Yukon to smuggling a bus to orphans in Guatemala.)
He was a collector of cars, boats, cats and ... people of all ages and backgrounds, people he befriended over a lifetime. He nurtured those friendships with frank talks and vigorous debate. Indeed, the more delicate or controversial the subject the better, as Andy's sharp mind would happily pull your arguments apart and leave you shaking your head.
He somehow knew a lot about almost everything (with a few gaps in English Literature) and he used that knowledge to provide practical help and advice to a wide circle of admirers.
A proud Hungarian, coffee lover, solver of all problems and true smoker's rights advocate, Andy was also a devoted napper from an early age.
His death has wrenched the hearts of his beloved sons, stepchildren, their spouses, many grandchildren and his favourite playmate, Rowan.
We all will dearly miss his gruff, combative yet truly loving, generous spirit.
Sail on, Andy.
