Whitehorse man accused of child sex crimes denied bail

Billy Dean Hank Callahan-Smith will remain in custody while awaiting trial for alleged sex crimes against an underage person, a judge ruled in a Whitehorse courtroom on March 13.

Callahan-Smith, who is in his late 20s, has been charged with sexually touching a person under the age of 16, kidnapping a person under the age of 16, sexual assault and administering a noxious substance: cocaine.

According to documents filed with the law court in Whitehorse, the alleged sex crimes occurred on Aug. 8, 2023. The victim’s identity is protected under a publication ban.

Callahan-Smith also faces mischief and theft charges for allegedly stealing fire extinguishers from a Whitehorse gas station on Oct. 17, 2023.

Callahan-Smith appeared at the bail hearing via video link.
