A young grizzly that’s raided garbage cans in Whitehorse’s Takhini and Porter Creek neighbourhoods in recent weeks appears to have moved on.
To be safe, conservation officers have left a culvert-style bear trap in the area for several more days. They ask residents to not poke around it - the scent of people may scare the bear off.
Residents who use trails are reminded to carry bear spray. Bear sightings in Whitehorse neighbourhoods should be reported to the TIP line (1-800-661-0525, 24 hours) or Environment Yukon (667-5652, business hours).
