Selkirk First Nation elects new chief

Citizens of the Selkirk First Nation elected Sharon Nelson as their new chief April 5.

Citizens of the Selkirk First Nation elected Sharon Nelson as their new chief April 5.

Nelson won with 191 votes, 93 more than the closest candidate, Darin Isaac.

Tara Roberts finished third with 49 votes.

Six councillors were also elected.

Milly Johnson was elected as the elder councillor, gathering 228 of the 331 votes.

Morris Morrison was elected as the youth councillor, with 214 of the 334 votes.

George McGinty and Dean Gill were elected Wolf clan councillors.

Nesta Hager and Teddy Charlie were elected Crow clan councillors.

Outgoing Chief Kevin McGinty was not running for re-election.

A swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for April 12 at 2 p.m. at the Link Building.
