Whitehorse RCMP are warning prospective renters of a new scam tactic.

Scammers put an ad on the Internet for a local residential rental at a great rate. The scammer then explains that they are currently working out of the country and asks the potential renter to wire a deposit, at which point the supposed landlord will mail the keys.

The scammer can even go as far as requesting formal paperwork and questionnaires be filled out before the money transfer.

If you have paid money to a rental scammer, please contact the RCMP at 867-667-5555 to make a report.
