After receiving a tip-off from the public, Whitehorse RCMP arrested on Saturday a man suspected of sexual assault.
Christian James Gallan, 33, faces charges of sexual assault with a weapon, sexual interference and choking in the commission of an offence.
On August 4 around 11 p.m., a 15-year-old girl reported that a man attacked her as she walked down Strickland Street.
“She was able to fight him off,” said Sgt. Don Rogers with Whitehorse RCMP.
On August 10, police asked for public assistance in locating Gallan. Police arrested him without incident on Saturday after receiving a report that he was in a local business.
Gallan is known to police. “He does have a record of violence,” said Rogers.
Gallan is currently being held in custody until he appears for his bail hearing in territorial court on August 26.
