Whitehorse RCMP are warning people against a new phone scam that has claimed at least one victim.
Over the weekend multiple local businesses were contacted by a man claiming to be from ATCO Electric Yukon or Yukon Energy.
The man told businesses their power would be shut off unless they paid him immediately.
One business reportedly fell for it, Whitehorse RCMP said.
Police say they have confirmed with both ATCO and Yukon Energy the phone calls are scams.
The force is asking anyone who has fallen victim to the same ruse to call them.
Business owners who received one of these calls but didn’t pay any money are being asked to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-459-8501 or at www.antifraudcentre- centreantifraude.ca.
