More snow is needed for conditions to improve, although skiing is possible in various locations.  Selwyn’s Loop, Lower Valley, Upper Valley and Copper are fair for skating.  Skating on the World Cup 10K is fair between Fireweed Junction and Moose Hill.  The McIntyre Loop is good for classic skiing. There are a few rocks poking through. Another spot to try for good early season skating is Jackson Lake.  There is 2 to 4 cm of snow on a well frozen lake surface.  The road in is good. Turn right off the Fish Lake Road.

Use extreme caution on all downhills — walk if in doubt. Rock skis are required on the lower Mt. McIntyre trails and skiing is still not recommended for novice or beginner skiers. Novice skiers should try Jackson Lake for the first outing of the year.

If skiing the McIntyre Loop, it is strongly recommended to walk up the Ascent or Descent Trail. If driving up the Descent Trail, good winter tires and/or chains and four-wheel drive are essential. Do not attempt to drive unless properly equipped. Use caution and be prepared to meet oncoming traffic. The road is one lane most of the way.

If skiing Jackson Lake stay away from the inlet and outlet areas and use caution when skiing through the narrows between the two lakes.

World Cup 10K is closed at Raven’s Ridge. Use the power line to bypass the development. The Raven’s Ridge detour will be open and well signed when skiing starts on the 10K. See the club web page for more details.

Please do not walk or run on the ski trails. Dogs allowed only on designated trails. Runners and walkers may use Rocky Canyon Trail and the edge of Dog Trail until grooming resumes.

Wax Suggestions: If you’re skiing the McIntyre Loop or Jackson Lake use Rode superblue.  Always take extra waxes and a cork with you.
