Girl charged with murder

A 16-year-old Whitehorse girl is accused of killing a man she lived with. The girl has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held at the Young Offenders Facility. She cannot be identified because of provisions of the Young Offenders Act.

Police won’t disclose the man’s identify, or whether the two are related, for the same reason.

Police responded to a call at a Crestview residence early Saturday morning and found a man, aged 53, suffering from “life-threatening” injuries. Police won’t elaborate on the nature of the injuries.

The man was declared dead at hospital.

The girl later turned herself in to the Whitehorse RCMP. She made a brief court appearance on Saturday and will next appear in court on Wednesday, August 12. (John Thompson)
