A lucky 13 runners participated in Sunday’s Yukon Cross-Country Championships at Mount McIntyre.

Brisk and sunny conditions were perfect for running and Luke Carlos was the first person to cross the finish line in the open male category. He completed the 7.5-kilmetre run in a time of 33:19. 

The first in the open women category was Denise McHale, completing the six-kilometre course in 29:45.

Seven-year-old Maggie Brook completed the one-kilometre course in a time of 5:29. This is the last official Athletics Yukon event for the running season.

Performance Centre Turbos 9

Firth Rangers 6

Jerry Wald kicked off the season for the Turbos on Sunday with a huge six-point night, scoring three and helping out on three more. Blaine Demchuk also netted the hat trick and Rob Millar notched a pair. Glen Heinbigner added a single.

Firth’s scoring came from the sticks or Gord Campbell and Adam Green, with two goals each, while Dave Borud and Tim Turner Davis scored one a piece.

AON Flames 4

Klondyke Dental Molars 2

Al Lane and Brian Boorse popped a pair of goals each for the Flames, as they doubled up on the Molars on opening night. Chris McNutt and Jim Baker scored for the Molars.

Yukon Inn 6

Kilrich 4

Dave Pearson led an offensive charge for the Yukon Inn, scoring a pair and assisting on two more, while Alain Pelletier, Greg Bull, Terry Berquist and Bernie Adilman scored as well.

Wayne Crowe helped out with three assists.

 Kilrich’s Stu Mackay had a goal and an assist, and Gord Duncan, Russ Knutson and Al Koehl added singles.

The Chest’s goals came from Scott Lowery, Grant Lyon, and Jim Giczi. While Edgewater kept things even with goals from Gary Vantell, Andy McLeod, and Doug Tenney.
