Gas service will return to Carcross on Oct. 1.
The community has been without service since a lease agreement on the gas bar expired at the end of June, said Justin Ferbey, CEO of the Carcross Tagish Management Corporation.
Now, a new lease has been signed, and the store will soon be back up and running.
The lack of service has been an “annoyance” but not a major problem, since most of the area residents travel frequently to Whitehorse, said Ferbey.
“Everyone just makes sure they’re gassed up in Whitehorse or Jake’s Corner, or have a jerry can.”
The Carcross/Tagish First Nation also runs trucks that can store fuel.
Having to travel farther for cigarettes has probably been a greater disruption to the community, said Ferbey.
Residents have been very understanding, he added.
