Relay riding
About 1,200 riders will compete in the annual Kluane to Chilkat International Bike Relay this weekend. The 238-kilometre race runs from Haines Junction to Haines, Alaska, on Saturday. The Haines Highway will be closed to southbound traffic at Haines Junction from 8:15 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Yukon time. Northbound traffic will be stopped 1.2 kilometres south of Checkpoint 1 (Kathleen Lake) from 8:15 a.m. Yukon time until approximately 10 a.m.
CHARITY
Riding for a cause
This Saturday is Motorcycle Ride for Dad, an effort to raise funds for the fight against prostate cancer. It Starts at the Mt. McIntyre Recreation Centre on at 8 a.m. There are speeches to kick things off, and the riders get going at 10:30. They’ll be riding the Tagish/Carcross/Jake’s Corner loop and are set to finish by 2 p.m. After that there will be motorcycle games, a people’s choice show and shine, then the barbecue. It’s happening rain or shine.
ABORIGINAL DAY CELEBRATIONS
In Whitehorse
The Council of Yukon First Nations and the Adaka Cultural Festival Team in partnership with Canadian Heritage, Indian and Northern Affairs, Music Yukon and Northwestel, are hosting National Aboriginal Day on Tuesday at Shipyards Park. It’s a fun-filled day with live music, culture, food and entertainment for the whole family. It runs from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
There’ll be musical guests, a bannock bake-off, artisan tent and more.

In Haines Junction
Come out to celebrate Aboriginal Day On Tuesday with Kluane First Nation, Champagne and Aishihik First Nations and Parks Canada at beautiful Kluane Lake. The free, family friendly event is open to all. It’ll be running from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will include a handgames tournament with grand prize of aerial sightseeing tour donated by Rocking Star Adventures, special presentations, craft sale, food, fun and good times.

Wild writing
Beverley Gray’s new book, The Boreal Herbal: Wild Food and Medicine Plants of the North, is launching Monday at the Old Fire Hall. Starting at 5 p.m., there will be a herbal elixir bar and assorted selection of wild foods.

Head banging
Celebrating their diamond anniversary, metal masters Nemesis are playing a show at the Jarvis Street Saloon On Saturday. They’ll be joined by special guests Kung-Fu Aliens. The show is $5. Doors open at nine and the music starts at 10 p.m.
Light headed
The Whiskey Dicks are back. This time they’re here with a different lineup. The drummer from their last show will be singing and playing guitar, and they are bringing up a trumpet player from Vancouver. Yves Paradis will be playing drums and, of course, Curtis Ernst will be on the cello.
They’re playing the Red Onion Saloon in Skagway on Thursday night. On Friday June 24, they’re playing two shows at Sunstroke. And Saturday night, June 25, they’re at Foxy’s Cabaret.
