Open letter to Yukon MP Ryan Leef:

If letters to the editor, Facebook postings and rallies are any indication, there are many Yukoners who are of the opinion that Bill C-38, the budget implementation plan, which amends 70 pieces of legislation, has negative implications for the territory.

As a member of the Yukon Legislative Assembly, I have heard from many Yukoners with concerns about the impacts of Bill C-38 on federal jobs, on environmental assessment, on the arts, on seniors, on Parks Canada, on employment insurance, and on frontline services Yukon small businesses have come to rely on from the government of Canada.

I understand that you have a different perspective. You believe in Bill C-38 and have spoken with groups in support, and intend to vote for its passage.

I would like to extend an invitation to you to share your perspectives on Bill C-38 and to address the concerns Yukoners have expressed about this legislation. I will book the hall, print up posters, and facilitate a respectful forum that is open to all Yukoners, not just a select group of stakeholders. I know your schedule is busy, but given the level of interest from the public, I think we can convene a well-attended public meeting on short notice.

Please let me know what date works best for you as soon as possible.
