Open letter to Patrick Singh, Liberal candidate in Whitehorse Centre:
Last week, the Liberals discussed their supported housing platform.
In a news article, Patrick Singh singled out one member of our community in particular.
I am not about to repeat how Singh referred to this person. I will, however, comment on the fact this individual has a full name just like you and me.
He also has the right to not be talked about publicly and in our local newspapers.
I attended the Yukon Anti-Poverty Committee à Community Conversation on Poverty last week and, there, people discussed the need to change the “us and them” labels we use when talking about people in our community.
There is not an “us and them,” but it is all of us together, working towards an inclusive community.
We all need to be respectful of each other, whether in our daily lives or in the media.
I believe this man is owed an apology.
