On behalf of our son Ryan and his friend Liam we would like to thank all the people who supported their cookie drive.
Ryan came home from school recently and told us that he and his friends were wanting to somehow raise money to send to Haiti in an effort to help out after the earthquake.
After some brainstorming they decided to offer “cookies for donation.” They would sell cookies and people could offer a donation for each one. Upon hearing about their idea, the manager and owner of Big Way Foods in Copper Ridge offered the store for the boys to sell their cookies in.
After much preparation the boys set up their booth last Sunday. They were so surprised at the generosity of the people who contributed to their cause. They left with US$400 to contribute to the Haiti disaster relief effort through the Red Cross. Much to their surprise, the owner of Big Way Foods said he will match whatever they made. The boys’ fundraising led to an $800 donation.
None of this would have been possible if it were not for the will and desire of the 10-year-old boys, the generosity of the community and the support of Big Way Foods.
It warms our hearts to know that we live in such a caring community. To us it reinforces the idea that just a few people, whose hearts are in the right place, truly can make a positive impact.
