When someone is diagnosed with cancer it has an immediate effect on them. It also has a massive impact on their family, their friends and even their community. In short, cancer affects all of us.
The Yukoners Cancer Care Fund provides financial support to Yukoners fighting cancer and their families that are caring for them. Last year I established the Speaker’s Reception to raise awareness of this fund and the incredibly important need for this program.
On April 25, I was very pleased to host the second annual reception. This year, like last, was a great success.
During the Speaker’s Reception, the Yukon Hospital Foundation reported that in spite of limited funds, they were able to assist five families in the communities and Whitehorse.
As I said in my opening address at the fundraiser, the Yukoners Cancer Care Fund and the Speaker’s Reception are about “friends helping friends.” Friends, this year’s event raised in excess of $18,000. Well done and thank you.
