I ride a scooter to work everyday. On three different occasions I was almost in an accident because people were talking on their cellphones and not paying attention to their driving.

I believe a law should be created that would make it illegal to drive while talking on a cellphone. A ban on cellphone use in cars already is in place in Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, and Ontario will have it by the end of this month. Manitoba has also introduced legislation.

I’ve sent a letter to the Yukon Party asking if they would create this law. They said the Motor Vehicle Act would have to be changed and they aren’t going to do that.

When it became a law in BC recently, the Yukon Party said people aren’t interested in it up here.

The idea behind this legislation is to save lives. If someone is hurt bad or dies because someone was using their cellphone while driving and the government knew this was dangerous and didn’t do anything about it, I would think that they then would be partially to blame.

Come on you government guys, do the right thing and help protect the people who elected you!
