Open letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper:

I want to thank you and your government on the recent announcement of $71 million from the new ECO Fund that was just announced. This funding, to complete the link of Yukon’s two electrical grids and major enhancements at the Mayo dam, will help provide Yukoners with more green energy while further protecting the environment by reducing greenhouse gases created in the production of electricity.

Everyone is a winner with this project.

Residential electrical consumers win by not having to pay the rising costs associated with having to burn diesel to generate electricity while at the same time keeping their costs closer in line with BC green power rates.

The environment wins by having an additional 40 gigawatt hours/year of new, green energy, which will offset energy requirements for diesel, and its associated 28,000 tonnes/year of CO2 emissions.

First Nations can win by having the opportunity to partner in a profitable economic venture with Canada and Yukon in the development of clean, renewable energy.

The economy wins with the creation of approximately 350 jobs during the construction of this project.

The mining industry wins by having access to cheaper, green energy for such projects as Western Copper and Alexco.

As Conservative candidate during last fall’s Federal election, I campaigned that if elected as Yukon’s MP in a Harper Conservative government, I would deliver this project for Yukoners.

I am pleased to see the diligence of Yukon Energy putting forth the business case, the hard work of Senator Dan Lang and myself, and the commitment to the North shown once again by you and your government to deliver this project for Yukon and Canada.
