Our government has had another brainstorm. Use the huge new jail as a detox centre. Dr. Rao Tadepalli says, “Safe monitoring of inebriated patients cannot be done in our hospital É we do not have the medical and social workers needed to deal with these people and the situation is worsening.”
Why are we not applying the same vigour and resources to prevention and healing programs?
Surely prison is not the answer.
Are our jails becoming the new residential schools?
