Raven Recycling is pleased that the beverage container regulations have finally been released for public consultation. The only update to the system since 1992 was the addition of tetrapaks 10 years ago, so they are long overdue.

Raven has always been faced with a challenge to cover the cost of the materials that the public drops at our recycling facility. Adding more materials and increasing deposit fees through the new regulations will increase the volume of material that is covered by a stable and viable revenue source. This will benefit all 22 community depots and the two processors based in Whitehorse.

Potential changes will have a positive impact on the entire waste management system once implemented in the next year or so. In the short term, Raven hopes that citizens will bring all their beverage containers into their local depot to help support recycling in the Yukon. We also encourage the public to provide their comments about the proposed changes to the regulations and are happy to answer any questions they may have.
