The Yukon Energy Corporation is proud to be a publicly owned utility, responsible for providing a sufficient supply of safe, reliable electricity and related energy services to customers throughout the Yukon.
Premier Dennis Fentie explained the Yukon government’s plans and policy for the Yukon Energy Corporation are guided by the Yukon government’s energy strategy.
The board is assured that efforts to explore the governance structures of Yukon’s energy services do not in any way represent steps to privatize or sell Yukon Energy’s public assets.
Yukon Energy Corporation staff can be assured that if any changes to governance structures are identified, there will be no loss of jobs. Yukon’s energy resources will continue to belong to, and be operated by Yukoners.
The board is very pleased by the commitment of the Yukon government to work with the board on the long-term management of Yukon’s energy resources.
Discussions are occurring in keeping with the recently approved energy strategy, which seeks to improve electricity generation in Yukon.
