Is there anyone in Whitehorse who’s noticed the proliferation of people riding fat-tired mountain bikes in the snow?

Maybe you’ve thought, “That guy or girl is crazy!”

Or, perhaps you thought that looks like a lot of fun, but you don’t want to put out money for a fat-tired bike, without first experiencing the sport.

Well, now’s your chance. With the recent thaw and refreeze that just occurred, most of the foot trails and snowmobile trails in Whitehorse just became awesome mountain bike trails.

They are solid enough to support any standard mountain bike.

Just set the pressure in your tires to about 20 psi (+/-5 psi) and dress like you would to go cross-country skiing, or hiking, or snowshoeing. (Don’t forget your helmet.)

Find a trail and give it a go. The only proviso is I wouldn’t recommend taking any bike with an air suspension out in freezing temperatures.
