For some reason, every time “Cowboy” Larry Smith comes to town women come out of the woodwork. So many, in fact, that he has to fight them off with bear spray.
All kidding aside, the first time I met Larry was in the Whitehorse Inn hotel in 1968. In his hotel room he had wolf or caribou skins hanging in his shower.
I could tell he was one of the Colourful Five Per Centers for sure.
Rodeo man, dog musher and trapper, he is quite a man. He did extremely well in the Iditarod dog race one year.
It’s always a pleasure to meet him and have a beer with him. He has been a good friend of mine for years.
