To all Carcross residents and landowners:
We are looking for your support in promoting an initiative we are working on with the Yukon government to develop a street- and house-addressing scheme in Carcross.
Currently, we don’t have a consistent means of identifying properties and homes. This has become more of an issue than it has been in the past and has been noted by emergency services – RCMP, ambulance and fire – as an obstacle to aid being rendered in a timely fashion. Several times emergency responses have been needlessly delayed by the inability to find homes or properties. There was a time when “the house kitty corner to Uncle Johnny’s” was known to most but times have changed.
We are proposing that properties be numbered, clearly, as in most other communities. There are many other reasons why this is a good idea and long overdue. We, the Southern Lakes Advisory Council, hope that you agree.
Please watch for upcoming flyers in your mailbox as well as LAC meetings in the near future that will deal with the logistics involved in this initiative.
