Re mineral staking within city limits:

Much land within the city has been staked by mining companies, including large parts of the lands designated as a recreation area in the city’s Official Community Plan where the ski club has its extensive trail system.

This trail system is an important recreation resource, not only for skiers and snowshoers in the winter, but also for large numbers of summer users Ð mountain bikers, runners, walkers, bird watchers and many others.

Whitehorse asked the Yukon government to withdraw these lands from mineral staking, to no avail.

The current election provides an opportunity for voters to press their local candidate to protect this vital recreational resource.

The next time someone comes to your door asking for your vote, ask them what they will do to protect this critical area for current and future generations.
